BECAUSE,
I am no longer afraid of distance.
I am no longer afraid of hard work.
I am no longer concerned with self sabotage.
I am no longer hiding my weight and size.
I am no longer worried that my body can't or shouldn't.
I am no longer afraid of hard work.
I am no longer concerned with self sabotage.
I am no longer hiding my weight and size.
I am no longer worried that my body can't or shouldn't.
BECAUSE,
I want to find joy or challenge in every day, preferably both.
I want to tap my greatest physical and emotional potential.
I want to always be proud of my personal endeavors.
I want to embrace and honor my abilities.
I want to illustrate my status as an athlete in a world of smaller athletes.
I WILL,
Compete in the '08 triathlon season,
as well as participate.
Challenge myself with new races at old distances.
Set specific performance goals throughout the year
and work towards them daily.
Race as an Athena and win as an Athena.
Encourage my friends, family and community to join me.
Allow myself dimension through the pursuit of other, non-athletic, goals.
Share the journey through open and honest writing.

If you find joy in this sport, the winning won't matter. Or a better way to look at it is for you to set the standard for what winning is. I got to caught up in the trying to win part and forgot about the fun. I'll take the fun!!Good Luck!!
For me this year, it's not going to be getting distracted by winning, but using that as part of my goals. My first year in triathlon was about learning about the sport (although that doesn't ever really end!) and acclimating to it, the second year was about trying new distances and fitting big training plans in my daily routine, and I would like my third to be about getting stronger and faster. Thus, using "winning" (in the more traditional sense) as part of my gauge.
But don't worry, finding the fun and joy in it won't be eclipsed! I think they can live happily together, too!
That is the BEST Declaration of Intent I have ever read. You are in for a great year.
Probably the hardest thing I have done this year is learn to give myself credit for toeing the line and training. It is a monumental accomplishment. Sounds like you are so there.
As I just said, I hope that race club works out for you because you will triple your pleasure if you are out there with teammates training and then racing in team kit. It's just so much fun.
Wow, that is an awesome declaration. I love it! All the best in 2008.
YAY! *LOUD APPLAUSE!*
Great, I look forward to following along. Your enthusiasm is contagious- I'll be thinking of my 2008 season soon.
Makes me want to come over to your house and TRAIN with you!
Awesome! It's like you're inside MY head ... much of what I've been thinking about for next season is clearly outlined in your post. Thanks :)
That's our girl!!!
I like it, I like it alot! Can I copy this and put it on my wall? I still can't get over the weight and size thing, esp when I see photos. But I'm working on it.
Lookin' good!
you've already won.
you will! and we'll be cheering you on the entire time!
